Joan Weinstein

Director, The Getty Foundation at J. Paul Getty Trust

Joan Weinstein is director of the Getty Foundation. Since joining the Getty she has directed grant initiatives internationally related to art history, conservation, and museum practice, and was co-director of Pacific Standard Time: Art in LA 1945–1980. Throughout her career she has been active in professional organizations in the fields of art history, philanthropy, and preservation and has served on a number of nonprofit boards. She is currently a trustee of the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts. Dr. Weinstein began her career teaching art history at the University of Pittsburgh and is the author of several books and numerous articles on the history of modern art in Weimar Germany. She holds a PhD in the History of Art from the University of California, Los Angeles, and studied at the Phillips-Universität Marburg in Germany.
