Sherwin Johnson has over 20 years of experience in various roles within the media and communications industry. Sherwin started their career as a Videographer/Photojournalist at WTVA in 1995 and then moved to WJTV 12 in 1996, where they worked as a Videographer/Writer. At WAPT-TV in 1999, Sherwin served as a News Producer for the Morning Show, where they supervised overnight news coverage and scheduled guests for live studio interviews. Sherwin then joined WLBT in 2000 as a News Producer for the 5 p.m. Newscast, where they managed newscast production, wrote news copy, and supervised the work of associate producers, videotape editors, and reporters. In 2006, Sherwin worked as an Assistant Production Manager at TV 23 Jackson State University, where they produced television shows and edited various seminars and events on campus. Since 2007, Sherwin has been at Jackson Public Schools (JPS), initially serving as the Executive Director of Public Engagement. In this role, they managed internal and external forms of school district communications, supervised employees, developed strategic communications plans, wrote press releases and newsletters, and provided audiovisual support. Throughout their career, Sherwin has demonstrated expertise in communications, media relations, editing, production, and management.

Sherwin Johnson attended Jackson State University from 2013 to 2015, where they studied Business/Corporate Communications. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio Television & Film from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1995.
