Malisa Harris, MAcc, MPA has a comprehensive work experience in accounting and finance roles. Malisa is currently the Chief Accountant at Jefferson County Commission, where they focus on streamlining accounting processes and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and tax regulations. Malisa also plays a key role in the procure-to-pay process.

Prior to their current position, Malisa worked at the City of Birmingham for over 17 years. Malisa held various roles including Principal Accountant, Senior Accountant, and Accountant. In these positions, they managed budgets, supervised revenue collections, and performed financial analysis. Malisa also prepared financial statements and reports, oversaw audits, and handled daily operations.

Malisa Harris, MAcc, MPA, has a strong educational background in both accounting and public administration. Malisa obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Business Administration and Management from Samford University, which they completed from 1985 to 1990.

Building on their undergraduate education, Malisa pursued a Master of Accountancy degree at Samford University from 2001 to 2003, where their focus was on accounting. Later, in 2014 to 2017, they attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a concentration in Project Management.

In addition to their formal degrees, Malisa Harris holds a certification as an Accounts Payable Manager, which they obtained from the Institute of Finance and Management in February 2021.
