Bradford Kearney

Bradford Kearney is an experienced instructor currently working with the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program(me) since August 2024. Previously, Kearney served as a Marketing Coordinator at IVX Health from February 2023 to July 2024, and completed a brief tenure as a Social Media Intern at the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville in June 2022. Kearney also gained experience as a Marketing & Sales Operations Intern at IVX Health in mid-2022 and as a Japanese Tutor at Belmont University from September 2021 to May 2022, assisting students in improving their Japanese language skills. Prior to these roles, Kearney served in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman from August 2014 to June 2017, holding positions such as Corpsman Team Leader and Supply Petty Officer. Kearney earned a degree from Belmont University between 2019 and May 2023, with prior education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Pellissippi State Community College.

Japan Exchange and Teaching Program(me) (JET)

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, founded in 1987, is aimed at promoting grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other nations. The number of countries sending participants has risen over the years, as has the number of participants. In 2022, the Programme welcomed 5,723 participants from 50 countries. The JET Programme enables local authorities (prefectures, designated cities and other municipalities) to employ foreign youth for the purpose of improving foreign language education as well as promoting international exchange at the local level. CLAIR administers the JET Programme in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Three types of jobs are offered on the Programme: Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) who are assigned to local boards of education or schools (elementary, junior and senior high) and carry out their duties under the guidance of Japanese Teachers of foreign language. Coordinator for International Relations (CIRs) are placed in the offices of local authorities or related organisations and engage in internationalisation activities under the guidance of a contracting organisations. Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs) are placed in local authorities engage in sports-related activities and are involved in internationalisation activities through the instruction of specific sports.
