Dong Chen

Dong Chen is an accomplished executive with extensive experience in business development and external innovation within the pharmaceutical industry. Currently serving as Executive Director of External Innovation at AbbVie since January 2025, Dong previously held multiple senior roles at Hengrui Pharma Co., Ltd, including Vice President, Global Head of BD Operations, and China Head of BD. In these positions, Dong managed global business development operations, supported corporate governance, and formulated strategies for global partnering. Prior experience includes significant contributions at Syneos Health Consulting in roles such as Senior Engagement Manager, where Dong facilitated a major $960 million acquisition, and at Simon-Kucher & Partners as a consultant focusing on pricing strategies for medical devices. Dong holds a PhD in Stem Cell Research from Yale University, complemented by a Medical Research Scholar degree from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
