Chief Executive Officer, JMP Securities at JMP Group LLC

Joe Jolson co-founded JMP Group and is its Chief Executive Officer, the Chairman of its board of directors and a member of its executive committee. Additionally, he is Chief Executive Officer of asset management subsidiaries Harvest Capital Strategies and JMP Asset Management. He serves as Chief Investment Officer of JMP Capital I and, from 1999 until 2015, served as portfolio manager of hedge fund strategy Harvest Opportunity Partners II.

Joe was previously a Senior Managing Director and senior equity research analyst at Montgomery Securities, now Banc of America Securities. In 1984, he established Montgomery Securities’ non-bank financial services research group, covering California and regional thrifts, government-sponsored enterprises, specialty lenders and mortgage finance companies over the next 15 years. In 1989, he initiated the firm’s real estate practice; and, in 1994, he launched its auto services effort. Joe was a consulting research analyst at Fidelity Management and Research in 1983 and 1984 and at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette from 1980 through 1982, following the financial services industry as well as selected emerging growth companies in both instances.

Joe was named to Institutional Investor magazine’s All-America Research Team for ten consecutive years, between 1986 and 1995, for his coverage of the savings and loan industry and was also selected as an All-Star Analyst in the financial services category by The Wall Street Journal in 1996 and 1997. Additionally, he was ranked as a top-five thrift analyst by Greenwich Associates every year from 1985 through 1994.

Joe received an MBA with distinction from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA degree from Yale University.
