John Throup

SVP, Head of Development at Jnana Therapeutics

John Throup is the current SVP and Head of Development at Jnana Therapeutics. John has over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on immunology and full development.

Throup started their career at GlaxoSmithKline in 2001 as a Project Manager. John progressed through the ranks and was eventually promoted to Head of Development for External Drug Discovery in 2006. In this role, they were responsible for leading R&D project teams and ensuring the progression of key pipeline assets.

In 2014, Throup left GlaxoSmithKline to join Bristol-Myers Squibb as Vice President, Full Development Lead for Immunoscience. In this role, they were responsible for the development of deucravacitinib from preclinical through to NDA/MAA submission. John also led multidisciplinary teams to craft development strategies and shepherd development of immunoscience assets through development, including clinical, non-clinical, commercial and regulatory aspects.

Throup left Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2022 to join Jnana Therapeutics as SVP and Head of Development. In this role, they are responsible for leading the company's development efforts and overseeing all aspects of drug development.

John Throup studied food science at the University of Nottingham, before going on to earn their PhD in molecular microbiology from the same school. John then attended Ermysted's Grammar School.

They work with Doug Pagán - CFO & COO, Joel Barrish - President & CSO, and Caroline Stark Beer - Chief Business Officer. Their manager is Joanne Kotz, CEO.
