Barry Everitt

President at Society for Neuroscience

Barry Everitt has held various significant roles throughout their career. Barry started in 1974 at the University of Cambridge as the Director of Research & Professor of Behavioural Neuroscience, a position they still hold. In 2003, they also became the Master of Downing College Cambridge, a role they held until September 2013. In October 2013, they became the Provost (CEO) of Gates Cambridge Trust. From July 2016 to July 2018, they served as the President of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS). Most recently, in November 2019, they became the President of the Society for Neuroscience.

Barry Everitt pursued their education in the field of biological sciences, specializing in behavioral neuroendocrinology and neuroscience. Barry first attended the University of Hull from 1964 to 1967, obtaining their Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology & Psychology. Barry then furthered their studies at the University of Birmingham Medical School from 1967 to 1970. There, they successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, focusing on the field of behavioral neuroendocrinology/neuroscience.
