Mechanical Engineer at Joby Aviation

Daniel Hetzel has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Daniel started working as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at SoftBank Team Japan in 2016. Later, they joined Paradigm Hyperloop as a Levitation Team Member where they optimized skirt designs and achieved second place in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition.

In 2017, Daniel worked as a Mechanical/Applications Engineering Co-op at Arcam AB, where they gained valuable experience in mechanical and applications engineering. Daniel then joined Nuvera Fuel Cells, LLC as a Mechanical Engineering Co-op in 2018.

Daniel also worked at Lilium as a Mechanical Systems Co-op, where they developed structural calculation tools, designed mounting systems, and created manufacturing work instructions for aircraft systems. Daniel also created a Python tool to post-process flight data, significantly reducing approval time.

Additionally, Daniel was a Founding Member/Life Detection/Mobility at the Northeastern University Mars Rover Team from 2018 to 2020. Daniel played a key role in the team, contributing to the design and development of the Mars rover.

Currently, Daniel works at Joby Aviation as a Mechanical Engineer, where they are involved in various mechanical engineering tasks.

Before pursuing their engineering career, Daniel had work experience as a Residential Camp Counselor at Camp Nominingue and completed a work placement at Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited, where they assisted with system replacement projects and gained knowledge about power distribution and management.

Daniel Hetzel earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University, where they attended from 2015 to 2020. Daniel later pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering at the same university from 2018 to 2020. Prior to their university education, Daniel completed the International Baccalaureate/IGCSE program at Warwick Academy between 2002 and 2015. In addition to their formal education, they obtained certifications such as the Advanced Open Water Diver from PADI in August 2012, as well as Level 1 Application and Level 1 Operator and Maintenance certifications from Arcam AB.
