Tim Spackman has a diverse work experience in the aviation industry. Tim began their career as a Flight Test Engineer with the Royal Australian Air Force in 2006, specializing in performance and flying qualities of military aircraft, particularly combat aircraft. Tim worked on various test programs until December 2013.
In 2014, Tim joined Gulfstream Aerospace as a Flight Test Engineer and remained in that role until December 2018.
Tim then moved to Joby Aviation, where they held multiple positions. From January 2019 to June 2020, they served as the Lead Flight Test Engineer. Starting in June 2020, Tim took on the role of Certification, Flight Test, and Human Factors. Since July 2022, they have been the Flight Test Engineering Lead at Joby Aviation.

Tim Spackman has an extensive education history in the field of Engineering. Tim obtained their Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from UNSW, where they studied from 2002 to 2005. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Engineering Science from UNSW, which they completed from 2007 to 2013.
In 2010, Tim also attended the Empire Test Pilots' School, where they undertook the Fixed Wing Flight Test Engineer Course No 34, further expanding their knowledge in Flight Test Engineering.
In addition to their academic qualifications, Tim has obtained certifications that enhance their professional profile. Tim received their Private Pilot ASEL certification from the Federal Aviation Administration in March 2021. Furthermore, they are a Certified Professional Engineer, having obtained this certification from the Institute of Engineers Australia in June 2013.
