Derek Kunaka oversees JSI's portfolio of local and regional projects based in Pretoria South Africa. Since 2011, he has directly managed multi-country and bilateral awards largely focused on health information systems strengthening and digital health. He leads the local affiliate—John Snow South Africa—and is the senior health information systems director on the CHISU program, USAID's flagship global mechanism for enhancing the capacity of countries to deploy systems and enable them to exchange data, improve the quality of data, and increase its use in decision making. Prior to joining JSI, Derek was a strategic information specialist for USAID at the country level. He has a BSc in information systems and an MSc in strategic management.
