Robert Farmer began their work experience in 1995 as a Mine Engineer with Westmin Resources. Robert then transitioned to Maptek Canada Limited in 1997, where they served as a Manager for one year. In 1998, Farmer joined John T. Boyd Company as the Director of Advanced Computer Services / Senior Mining Engineer, a role they held until 2012. From 2012 to the present, they have been the Vice President of John T. Boyd Company.

Robert Farmer attended Queen's University from 1989 to 1994, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering. In terms of additional certifications, they became a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) through PEGNL - Professional Engineers & Geoscientists Newfoundland & Labrador in July 2017. Robert also holds the SME Registered Member certification from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, which they obtained in March 2007. Additionally, they became a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) through PEO - Professional Engineers Ontario in June 2000.
