W. Liebrecht Fick

W. Liebrecht Fick has extensive experience in graphic design, illustration, and research. From 2015 to present, they have been the Design Director at JourneyApps, where they are responsible for the company's design efforts and communicating its creative vision to stakeholders. W. Liebrecht is also the Design Lead on the JourneyApps Marketing & Design team, working on the company's brand and communication design projects.

From 2009 to 2014, Fick worked as a Graphic Designer, Illustrator & Researcher in their personal (freelance) capacity. W. Liebrecht created illustrations for Wyrd Films, and did graphic design and illustration projects for a variety of clients. W. Liebrecht also worked as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator at JourneyApps and FireID, Lead Designer at Mindjoy, and Graphic Designer at Media24 Magazines Digital Division.

In 2012, Fick worked as an Illustrator at Pearson Southern Africa, Housekeeping staff (Ski Resort Lodging) at Vail Resorts, and Graphic Designer, Layout Artist, Editorial Staff at Stellenbosch University. W. Liebrecht was also the Cartoonist & Office Manager at Stellenbosch University's student newspaper, Graphic Designer, Illustrator & Photographer at the same newspaper, and Editor-in-chief & Art Director at the newspaper of Eendrag Mens' Residence.

In 2009, Fick had work experience/job shadowing at TiP Africa and Infestation, and work experience/job shadowing at VISI magazine, Media24.

W. Liebrecht Fick's education history includes attending Overberg High School from 2002 to 2006, where they obtained a Senior Certificate (with Matriculation Exemption; passed with Distinction). From 2007 to 2011, they attended Stellenbosch University and obtained a BA in Visual Arts (Visual Communication Design) with a focus on Graphic Design, Illustration, and Visual Studies. In 2012, they attended the University of Helsinki and obtained a Helsinki Summer School Diploma (4 ECTS credits) in Design and the City. In 2020, they attended Stellenbosch University again and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Development in Sustainability Studies. W. Liebrecht is currently enrolled in Stellenbosch University for a Master of Philosophy in Sustainable Development in Sustainability Studies, which is expected to be completed in 2023. In addition to their formal education, Fick has obtained certifications from UNESCO, Hasso Plattner School of Design Thinking at UCT, Stellenbosch University Language Centre, UmalusiSA, Goethe-Institut e.V., and HubSpot Academy.
