Viral B. Shah

Co-Founder & CEO at Julia Computing

Viral B. Shah is the Co-Founder and CEO at Julia Computing. Prior to this, they were with Rebooting India as a Co-Author from October 2013 to October 2015. India is sitting on a demographic dividend, expected to become the world’s youngest country by 2020 with 64 per cent of its population, roughly 800 million people, of working age. But our country cannot become a global powerhouse unless we resolve the contradictions and bridge the gaps that distort our society. The challenge before us is to enable every one of India’s 1.2 billion citizens to realize their aspirations. According to Nandan Nilekani and Viral Shah, the only way to do this is by using technology to radically reimagine government itself.

From July 2010 to November 2012, Shah was with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as Manager (Financial Inclusion). Viral designed the policies and the technology behind the Aadhaar-based payments systems for Government payments and the e-KYC platform. Aadhaar-based payments today form the backbone of India's government payments. In Rebooting India, Shah describes at length our experience in rolling out transformational technology projects in government.

Viral B. Shah completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara and a B. Engg. in Computer Engineering at PVPPCOE | Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil College of Engineering.

Some individuals on their team include Rob Williams - VP, Sales, Deepak Vinchhi - Director, Co-Founder & COO, and Stefan Karpinski - Director, Co-Founder & CTO.
