Bernard Hibbitts is a distinguished legal professional with extensive experience in academia and legal publishing. As the Founder, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief of JURIST since February 1996, Bernard leads a global team of over 125 law student volunteers, focusing on critical reporting of the rule of law during crises. Bernard also serves as a Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where a commitment to legal history and innovation in legal news has been recognized with multiple teaching awards. Prior roles include serving as a Research Assistant at Harvard Law School and as a Judicial Law Clerk to Justice Gerald Le Dain at the Supreme Court of Canada. Bernard's educational background includes multiple degrees in law and international relations from prestigious institutions such as Harvard Law School, the University of Toronto, and the University of Oxford.

JURIST is your place for US and world legal news. Our mission is to explain developments in the law to the broadest online readership possible, complete with primary source documents and reasoned analysis. A small professional staff led by Professor Bernard Hibbitts and a team of volunteer law students produce and publish JURIST as a public service, believing that access to the law deepens debate and strengthens democracy. JURIST has been cited in briefs, motions, and memorandum to the Supreme Court of the United States, state supreme courts, and federal and state appellate and trial courts. It has also been cited in over 700 law review articles, appearing in publications such as the Harvard Law Review and the Yale Law Journal.
