Jon Nielsen, Ph.D, MBA

Jon Nielsen, Ph.D, MBA has a diverse and extensive work experience. Jon is currently a Senior Director of Capability Delivery at K2 Construction Consultants, Inc. and has been in this role since July 2022. Prior to that, they were a Senior Program Manager at the same company from July 2021 to July 2022. Jon also served as a Senior Consultant/Advisor at K2 Construction Consultants, Inc. from January 2020 to July 2022, where they provided management and technical support for various projects related to nuclear nonproliferation, security technology, and policy.

Before joining K2 Construction Consultants, Inc., Jon was the Local Preparedness Program Manager at the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management from February 2021 to July 2021. In this role, they managed FEMA Local Preparedness Program resources and operational activities in New Mexico, providing technical assistance to local jurisdictions, tribes, and nations in emergency management.

Prior to their work at the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, Jon had a long tenure at Los Alamos National Laboratory, starting in 1988. During their time there, they held various positions of increasing responsibility. Notably, they were a Program Manager in the Global Material Security and Nuclear Proliferation departments, managing budgets, overseeing programs, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve mission goals. Jon also led the deployment and maintenance of radiation detection equipment at foreign ports and airports as part of the Megaports program. In addition, Jon worked as a Staff Member, Group Leader, and Program Manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory, conducting research and development projects in chemistry and nuclear materials processing.

Jon Nielsen, Ph.D, MBA obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Chemistry from St. Olaf College. Jon then pursued further education and earned a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Chemistry from The University of Alabama. Additionally, Jon Nielsen completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from UNM Anderson School of Management. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained the ITIL4 Foundation Level certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice in April 2020.
