Shawn Dorey has a diverse range of work experience. Shawn started their career as a Designer/Producer at Coro Studio in 2014, where they contributed to design meetings and provided feedback on narrative design and flow. In the same year, they also worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of New Brunswick, where they supported student film production and taught camera operating techniques. In 2015, they became a Community Manager at First Person Scholar, where they implemented engagement strategies, managed social media presence, and analyzed engagement metrics. From 2016 to 2017, they worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo, assisting with various courses. In 2017, they joined Blue Ocean Contact Centers as a Customer Service Representative, providing tier 2 tech support and educating customers on the TextNow application. Currently, in 2022, they are working as a Player Support Agent II at Kabam.

Shawn Dorey completed their high school education at Moncton High School from 2005 to 2009, earning a High School Diploma. Shawn then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Media Arts and Cultures at the University of New Brunswick from 2009 to 2015. Following that, they attended the University of Waterloo from 2015 to 2017, where they obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Experimental Digital Media.
