Vice President Pre-Clinical R&D at Kala Pharmaceuticals

Peter Baciu has a diverse and extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical and medical research industry. Peter currently serves as the Vice President of Pre-Clinical R&D at Kala Pharmaceuticals, starting in September 2021. Prior to this, they worked as an Independent Consultant from December 2019 to September 2021.

From August 2019 to November 2019, Peter worked as the Executive Director of Ocular Disease at Eloxx Pharmaceuticals, where they led discovery research strategy and oversaw various programs related to ophthalmic indications. Peter also had a role as a Senior Director of Ocular Disease at Editas Medicine from September 2017 to July 2019, where they utilized CRISPR/Cas9 technology to drive discovery programs in ocular indications.

Peter's experience in the industry also includes a significant tenure at Allergan, where they held multiple roles starting from 1997 to 2017. These roles include Research Investigator, Principal Scientist, Senior Scientist, and various leadership positions. Prior to that, they served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation from 1990 to 1991, where they identified and cloned novel members of cell surface proteoglycans.

Peter Baciu has a strong educational background in the field of biology and biochemistry. Peter started their academic journey in 1978 at West Virginia University, where they pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, General. Peter successfully completed their undergraduate studies in 1983.

Following their bachelor's degree, Peter continued their education at West Virginia University, specializing in Genetics and Developmental Biology. Peter obtained a Master's Degree from the university's Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology in 1986.

Peter's academic pursuits didn't stop there. Peter furthered their academic achievements by enrolling in the School of Medicine at West Virginia University. During their time there, from 1986 to 1990, they dedicated himself to the study of Biochemistry and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.

In addition to their formal education, Peter Baciu also holds additional certifications. In 2019, they completed the "Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging" course offered by LinkedIn. Peter followed this up in 2020 by obtaining the certification for "Creating a Culture of Collaboration," also from LinkedIn.
