Kapatirang Capuchino ng Pilipinas

The Capuchin Friars Minor is a Roman Catholic Order of brothers, either priests consecrated laymen, who follow the Rule of St. Francis of Assisi and in the manner, form, and spirituality approved in 1528. The Capuchins arrived in the Philippines in 1886 intending only to establish a procurement friary to support its missions in the Pacific Islands. They chose to stay despite the growing anti-colonial unrest against the Spanish Empire and heroically ministered to abandoned Catholic parishes; despite great difficulty and local resistance, they eventually revitalized the Christian faith among the local faithful. The Capuchins also actively promoted the devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes, eventually establishing the first Archonfraternity of Our Lady of Lourdes outside France. The Order eventually sent Capuchin friars specifically tasked to build a long-term presence in the Philippines; by 1986, the Capuchins in the Philippines had grown enough to be established as a Province of the Order.
