Cheryl Wergin

Advisor at KarenZupko

Clarifying organizational problems, structuring and facilitating change, and guiding practice growth have been the driving forces of Cheryl’s professional career for three decades. She is widely recognized for her ability to guide physicians and practice teams through the complexities of mergers, group formation, organizational realignment, and internal conflict. A seasoned business adviser trained in counseling psychology, Cheryl listens and considers all aspects of an issue before developing a plan and taking action. Her balanced, hands on style makes her an effective change management coach who builds the capabilities of managers and front line supervisors to successfully assume new roles. This empowerment-focused approach is one of many reasons why clients engage Cheryl for remote management, operational realignment, staff development, and performance improvement for years after the initial practice assessment or merger is over. In these projects, Cheryl leads strategic planning, implements decision-making and meeting structures, oversees financial management, and develops performance-based evaluations and bonus systems for practice teams. Cheryl’s strong operational skills have helped hundreds of practices implement systems that improve practice productivity and profitability. Her unparalleled knowledge of group dynamics allows her to implement effective group governance structures, mitigate physician behavior issues, and improve organizational relationships. She is frequently involved in succession planning, and supports physicians in both the practical and emotional aspects of practice transition. In addition to her more than thirty years of healthcare experience, Cheryl spent ten years managing distributions operations for a multinational chemical company. Cheryl attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, then earned a B.S. in political science from Northern Illinois University DeKalb. She has a M.A. in counseling psychology from the Alfred Adler Institute of Chicago. Cheryl continually enhances her professional and personal skills by attending ongoing education workshops and educational seminars. An avid gardener, Cheryl has a passion for organic techniques and sustainable living goals. She’s a seasoned traveler who has enjoyed the cultures, traditions, and geographic beauty of countless countries on five continents and has the distinction of having visited every state in the U.S.
