Marissa has over 24 years of experience in the healthcare industry in all areas of the revenue cycle with focus on prospective and retrospective auditing for both EM and surgical services, coding abstraction and billing compliance. She has delivered both coding and auditing services and education for a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. She has held positions as Coder, Coding Manager, Managing Consultant, Coding Compliance auditor and Educator, and QA Quality Reviewer. She has extensive experience in multi-specialty evaluation/management and surgical coding and auditing with a focus on educating physicians and mid-level providers on correct coding and documentation for compliant billing to maximize reimbursement. She also has extensive experience in coding and auditing PT/OT and DME.

Most recently, Marissa worked for a National Consulting firm where she served as the lead Orthopedic surgical and E/M QA Quality reviewer and was tasked with ensuring coders achieved their required 95% monthly coding compliance accuracy score and routinely provided coding education to coders and clients. Prior to that she worked for a large physician owned Orthopedic practice as the Auditing manager and oversaw the day-to-day operations for the coding department for surgical coding as well as the E/M auditing and education for providers. While there she also developed the Coding/Compliance program with auditing/monitoring schedules, policies, provider education, and onboarding for new providers and fellows.

Marissa holds certifications as a professional coder (CPC), a professional medical auditor (CPMA), certified professional biller (CPB), a certified professional anesthesia and pain management coder (CANPC), and a certified pediatrics coder (CPEDC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). In addition, she also holds certification as a certified coding specialist (CCS) from The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
