Hesham Gayar

Associate Medical Director - Department Of Oncology at Karmanos Cancer Institute

Hesham Gayar, MD has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of radiation oncology. Hesham is currently serving as the Co-Chair of the Education Committee for the Particle Therapy Collaborative Group (PTCOG), a prestigious international organization focused on particle therapy. Dr. Gayar joined the Particle Therapy Collaborative Group in 2022.

Prior to their current role, Dr. Gayar held various leadership positions at McLaren Health Care, McLaren Proton Therapy Center, Karmanos Cancer Institute, and McLaren Flint. Hesham served as the Chairman of the Research Advisory Board at McLaren Health Care and the Medical Director at McLaren Proton Therapy Center, which is a part of the Karmanos Cancer Network. Additionally, they worked as the Associate Medical Director in the Department of Oncology at the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Hesham started their tenure with McLaren Flint as the Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology in 1990.

Before their association with McLaren, Dr. Gayar worked as a Radiation Oncologist at Radiation Oncology Consultants. Hesham also gained valuable experience and training as a Radiation Oncology Fellow at The Ohio State University and as a Chief Resident at St. Vincent's Hospital. Furthermore, they completed their Radiation Oncology residency at St. Vincent's Hospital and served as a Transitional Intern at Alexandria University Hospital.

Dr. Gayar's work experience demonstrates their expertise in the field of radiation oncology and their commitment to advancing education and research in particle therapy.

Hesham Gayar, MD obtained their MD, MBChb degree from Alexandria University in 1980. In 2008-2009, they pursued further education in Proton Therapy at The Paul Scherrer Institute.
