KSRTC as the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation is commonly known began its service from 1961 and since then has become one of the most reputed and popular surface transport operators amongst travelers from different cross sections of society. KSRTC was the first road transport corporation to induct Volvo buses and is now the country's largest premium fleet operator. It has also pioneered a cell phone-friendly, web-based ticket reservation system AWATAR, which won the National award for e-Governance 2009-2010.
