Matias Fernandez Barrio has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Matias co-founded and served as CEO of Karvi starting in 2017. In 2019, they became the President of the Wharton Club of Argentina, a role they held until May 2020. Prior to that, Matias worked at AXION energy, where they held multiple positions including Retail Director and Marketing and Strategy Director. At AXION, they led a team of 1400+ and managed fuel and non-fuel retail sales. Matias also played a key role in the commercial aspects of Bridas' acquisition of Esso Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Before AXION, Matias worked at Bain & Company as a Management Consultant, focusing on industries such as oil & gas, utilities, consumer goods, and retail. Matias led case teams and worked on projects related to upstream re-organization for a global oil & gas company and corporate strategy for a major European utility. Earlier in their career, Matias worked at Shell as a Strategic Alliances Manager, Fuels Category Manager, and Territory Manager. Matias led negotiations for alliances in South Latin America, launched new fuel products, implemented promotions, and developed long-term portfolio plans. Matias began their career at Altria as a Marketing Associate, where they executed brand and communication programs for consumer goods brands.
Matias Fernandez Barrio obtained their Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Administration y gestión de empresas, general from the Universidad de 'San Andrés' in the years 1998 to 2001. Later, they pursued their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finanzas, general from The Wharton School, graduating in the years 2008 to 2010.
