Ali Cheema

Dr. Cheema is a PhD holder in Economics from University of Cambridge. He is a leading economist and has been at the forefront in the field of education since 1994. He is currently a part of Lahore University of Management sciences (LUMS) which is an internationally well recognized institute. He is also a part of Center of International Development (CID), Kennedy School of Government, Harvard and South Asia Initiative, Harvard, University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and St. John’s College, Cambridge UK leading and top-ranked institutes of United Kingdom.

He has a rich policy experience and is presently working as a Technical Member of Government of Punjab’s Working Group on Smart-Testing and Smart-Containment of the COVID-19 outbreak. He has been working in Punjab Provincial Finance Commission, the Statutory Body for Awarding Fiscal Transfers between Province and Local Governments Technical Member since 2015. He also held the position as a Member Chief Minister Punjab’s Economic Advisory Council for 2 years. Mr. Cheema has been an active participant in major projects initiated in Pakistan for economy management and control and also served as a Member Panel of Economists, Government of Pakistan Planning Commission, and as a Member of Economic Advisory Board Sub-Group on Industry, Investment and Privatization, Government of Pakistan.

Dr. Cheema, for his endless efforts has been internationally recognized and honored with Fulbright Scholar Award, The Cambridge Journal of Economics Political Economy Society Fund Award, University of Cambridge, The Ellen McArthur Fund Award, University of Cambridge and has been appointed as Appointed Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society since 1994.

He currently holds directorship in Mahbub ul Haq, Lahore University of Management Sciences and Centre of Economic Research, Pakistan.
