Virginia Flynn

Virginia Flynn has been working in the environmental field since 1993. Virginia began their career as a Horticulturist and Landscape Designer at Flowerwood Nursery, Inc. in 1993. In 1995, they worked as a Horticulturist at the Champaign County Forest Preserve District, where they taught "Botany Basics" educational programs to 3rd-5th grade children. In 1996, they were a Researcher II at Southern Illinois University, providing laboratory and field technical services related to the evaluation and restoration of upland and wetland surface mined land habitats. In 1999, they worked as a Senior Environmental Scientist at Parsons, providing project supervision and technical support for biological and natural resource planning. Since 2013, they have been a Project Manager, PWS at Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC, managing and providing technical support for environmental tasks on a variety of small to medium sized bridge, culvert and roadway projects for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT), Illinois Tollway, and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT). Virginia is also a wetland specialist (Professional Wetland Scientist), waterway permitting specialist, NEPA specialist, and project manager.

Virginia Flynn obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1988 to 1993. Virginia then pursued a Master's degree in Plant Ecology from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale from 1993 to 1995. In November 2017, Virginia Flynn obtained their Professional Wetland Scientist certification from the Society of Wetland Scientists - Professional Certification Program.
