Johan Barnard

Johan Barnard is a seasoned multilingual international Mining Engineering Professional with extensive expertise in open pit mining, mechanised narrow reef, and massive underground mining across multiple commodities. Currently serving as Technical Director and Head of Mining at KAZ Minerals since November 2015, Johan provides critical technical guidance for mining operations and projects. Prior to this role, experience at Anglo American included positions as Lead Open Pit Mining and Principal Mining Engineer, where advisory responsibilities encompassed risk management and the implementation of safety and sustainability practices. Johan's career also features leadership roles such as Production Manager at Bathopele Platinum Mine and Mining Manager at Black Mountain Mining Co and Quellaveco Mine Project. Educational qualifications include an Engineer's Degree in Mining and Mineral Engineering from the University of Pretoria, complemented by additional studies at Stellenbosch University and GIBS Business School.
