Melissa Vaughn (Jurgens) has a diverse work experience spanning different industries. Melissa began their career as a Universal Cheerleading Association staff member at Varsity Spirit from 2005 to 2006. In 2011, they joined Charles Saul Engineering as a Project Engineer and worked there until 2015. During this time, they gained experience as an engineer in training and served on various project teams.
Following their time at Charles Saul Engineering, Melissa served as the Founding President of the Red Shoe Society with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa from 2012 to 2015. In this role, they led a group of young professionals dedicated to volunteering, fundraising, and raising awareness for RMHC.
Melissa then worked at Saul Engineering (Structural) as a Client Development Engineer from 2016 to 2018. Melissa directed strategic efforts in business development and marketing, with a focus on client relations, branding, and firm expansion.
In 2015, Melissa also joined Lead DSM as a Project Committee Mentor until 2020. Melissa served on the GDMLI Project Committee Board, coaching and enhancing the experience for Community Leadership Program class members. Their responsibilities included facilitating relationships with community project partners, implementing The Leadership Challenge curriculum, and developing project teams.
In 2018, Melissa held simultaneous roles at KCL Engineering and Denovo. At KCL Engineering, they worked as a Marketing Manager, generating marketing campaigns and strategic development for various services. Melissa tracked market trends and identified growth opportunities for all KCL's offices. At Denovo, they were involved in Marketing & Business Development.
Most recently, Melissa became the Co-Owner of BDI Signs in 2022.
Melissa Vaughn (Jurgens) completed their high school education at Xavier College Preparatory from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained their High School Diploma. From 2005 to 2010, they attended California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering. Melissa furthered their education by attending the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute from 2014 to 2015, where they completed the Community Leadership Program as a graduate.
