The role

As Social Media Manager at Kenga, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy to increase our online presence and engagement with our target audience. This includes managing our social media accounts, creating and curating engaging content, and analysing and reporting on social media metrics.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll spend a lot of time designing and implementing social media strategies for Kenga. You’ll enjoy a lot of autonomy to play with and create the social media voice of Kenga across all social media platforms. You’ll also be working on transforming announcements, articles on the website and print magazines, and newsletters into fun, attention-grabbing posts on Instagram and Twitter via prose and visual designs. You’ll also be in charge of creating and leading our foray into new social media channels.

Who you will work with: This role is part of the marketing team and as such, you’ll be reporting to and working with the Marketing Director. You will also work collaboratively with Kenga’s contributing editors and, occasionally, the CEO and Editor-in-Chief

Responsibilities Your chief responsibilities would be:

  • creating and scheduling daily social media posts on Afro Gen Z culture, identity, and politics weekly
  • transforming editorial posts published on Kenga Digital to summarized and stylised social media posts
  • creating and driving Kenga's voice, style and content partnerships on social media
  • following conversations and trends relevant to the African Gen Z community and global culture that would make for great Kenga content
  • collaborating with the larger editorial team, participating in brainstorming meetings, assisting with execution of special projects, and generally contributing across Kenga where opportunities arise
  • analyzing and reporting on social media metrics, such as engagement and followers, to measure the effectiveness of our social media efforts
  • implementing SEO best practices such as keyword searches, connecting articles through inline links, and updating older evergreen posts across social media and the website
  • collaborating with the Marketing Director at Kenga to craft Kenga's social media transition from photo to video content and other strategic initiatives
  • developing creative digital strategies to improve the Kenga brand awareness
  • managing and growing the brand's social media accounts (e.g. Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok)

Perks:

While this is currently an unpaid role, you get:

  • Free print copy of magazine
  • Discounts on all other Kenga products
  • Working alongside some of the continent’s leading Gen Z minds
  • Extremely flexible work hours
  • Remote working
  • Unlimited PTO

What we’re looking for We are looking for someone with:

  • A passion for telling stories about the Afro Gen Z community
  • A knack for translating culture into content
  • The ability to communicate clearly in visual and written format
  • A creative mind to come up with exciting and unconventional social media strategies
  • Familiarity with planning and executing social media calendars
  • Experience working in social media and communication
  • An interest in building a profile in the mediatech space
  • Ability to work with international teams across multiple time zones

It’ll also be nice to have:

  • Experience creating graphics and visual art, especially for social media
  • Knowledge of key Gen Z ‘movers and shakers’ across Africa
  • Experience working with editorial teams
  • Experience planning and managing marketing budgets
