Michael Geist has a diverse work experience spanning different roles and industries. Michael began their career as a Student Worker at Kent State University Athletics, working as a Football Filmer. Michael then served in the US Army as a Satellite Operator and Maintainer, reaching the rank of SGT/E5 and taking on leadership roles. After their military service, Michael worked at Windstream Communications, providing customer support for Broadband services.
Michael then joined TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. as a Network Administrator Level 1, where they supported and maintained LAN/WAN networks for the United States Marines Corp in various locations. Michael excelled in troubleshooting and demonstrated strong customer service skills.
Returning to Kent State University, Michael assumed the role of Network Design Engineer, responsible for designing and deploying wireless architecture across multiple campuses. Michael also held the position of Senior Network Design Engineer, managing extensive network infrastructure, including switches, access points, and firewalls. During this time, Michael led various high-level projects and contributed to the improvement of campus wireless capabilities.
Michael'smost recent position at Kent State University was as the Manager of Network and Telecommunications. In this role, they oversaw three teams and successfully reduced overall spending while still providing essential services to the university. Additionally, they held the position of Director of IT, focusing on security, network, and telecommunication services at the institution.
Michael Geist earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Kent State University in the years 2015-2019. Prior to that, they obtained an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in General Studies from the University of Maryland Global Campus between 2008 and 2011. Michael completed their high school education at Theodore Roosevelt Highschool in Kent, Ohio from 2000 to 2004. Currently, they are pursuing a Master's degree in Business Analytics at Kent State University, expected to be completed by 2024. Additionally, they hold certifications such as Junos, Associate (JNCIA-Junos) from Juniper Engineering Solutions in 2016, and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) from Cisco in 2014.
