Douglas Cowan

Douglas has acted for insurers throughout his 20 year career and specialises in large loss personal injury claims. He has experience of all types of claims involving personal injury or property damage including Casualty claims, Technical claims and Professional Negligence claims including construction disputes.

He gained Law Society specialist accreditation in personal injury law in 2008 and is described in Chambers and Partners as having ‘exceptional communication skills’.

Douglas works alongside our Marine, Ports and Offshore team in relation to specialist personal injury claims. He commonly deals with high value claims raised in the Court of Session and has extensive Advocacy experience having appeared in Courts throughout Scotland. A highlight was successfully defending a high value Court of Session case on liability following a 5 day Jury Trial. The pursuer had sued a fellow cyclist following a group cycling accident. He has also advised clients in the public sector regarding all liability claims and health and safety matters.
