Joel Gabauer has a diverse work experience in the construction and infrastructure industry. Joel started their career as a Graduate/Site Engineer at Neumann Contractors in 2005. Joel then worked as a Project Engineer at Thiess on the Victorian Desalination Project, focusing on civil and structural works. In 2010, they joined Leighton Contractors as a Project Engineer, where they were involved in delivering bridges and underpasses for NSW RMS.

In 2011, Joel worked for PG Build as a Construction Engineer, managing residential and commercial building projects. Joel then joined McConnell Dowell as a Senior Project Engineer, overseeing rail-specific construction works on the Gold Coast light rail project. Joel led a team and successfully completed $64 million of scope within a year.

Joel's experience with rail projects continued as they joined Downer, where they worked as a Rail Manager. Joel was involved in the bid for the Gold Coast light rail stage 2 and the Canberra Light Rail Stage 1. Joel also worked with Downer as the Managing Contractor for TfNSW on the Newcastle Light Rail project, assisting with the rail infrastructure scope.

In 2014, Joel founded Sitemobi, a web-based construction management software used for activity costing and tracking. The software was utilized on major infrastructure projects such as the Canberra Light Rail and Northconnex.

Currently, Joel is working at Keolis Downer as a Technical Director. Joel has previously held roles as an Infrastructure Manager, where they managed maintenance on the Gold Coast light rail network, and as a Project Manager for the Commonwealth Games, ensuring the successful delivery of light rail services.
