Peter J van Dijk

Distinguished Scientist

Peter J van Dijk is a distinguished scientist with extensive experience in plant genetics, specializing in reproductive traits and processes such as apomixis, hybridization, and polyploidization. Currently serving as a part-time Distinguished Scientist at KeyGene, since 2006, and as an independent scientist, Peter's research focuses on the application of these genetic concepts in plant breeding, including the development of alternative rubber crops for temperate regions. Peter co-initiated significant EU-funded projects aimed at establishing new rubber-producing crops. Prior to this role, Peter held positions as a Scientist and Post-Doc at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (KNAW-NIOO), contributing to various ecological genetic studies and co-authoring numerous scientific papers. An active consultant and lecturer, Peter is also involved in educational activities on topics like Mendel, Dandelion Science, and Apomixis. Personal interests include commitments to family as a dedicated father and granddad.
