Principal Software Engineer at Kinetica

Dave Bredenberg has extensive work experience in software engineering and architecture. Dave started their career as a Software Design Engineer at Texas Instruments in 1986. Dave then worked as a Sr. Software Engineer at Interbase Software Corp., where they led engineering projects for InterBase 3.0 and integrated the product with dBase. At Borland, they served as a Sr. Staff Engineer and was responsible for designing and implementing JBase, an object-relational database. Dave also managed the development of InterBase RDBMS during the development of Version 4.0.

In 1999, Dave worked as an Architect at Net Effect Systems and Dash.com, where they focused on system-wide scalability and performance for web-based applications. Dave led a data warehouse effort and served as the resident expert for UML and Rational Rose at Dash.com. At Xevo Corporation, they worked on system-wide scalability and performance for an MS Exchange automated provisioning application. Dave created a methodology for stress testing the system and evaluating performance bottlenecks.

Dave founded their own consulting business, Pure Joy Consulting, in 2008, where they built a software consulting business around database performance and query optimization. Dave worked on various platforms, including PCs, Macs, and Unix, and coded in languages such as C++, Objective C, SQL, and Java.

In 2010, Dave joined Netezza, an IBM Company, as a Software Architect. Dave was the sole developer in charge of a Data Aggregation engine using Netezza, C++, and Linux. Dave also developed SQL features for DB2 Blu using C/C++ on Linux and used Agile development methodology.

From 2015 to 2016, Dave worked at Infosys as a Senior Principal. Currently, they are a Principal Software Engineer at Kinetica, where they develop database engine features using C++ and Python on Linux. Their responsibilities include developing window functions, partitioning, schemas, and AWS/Azure subscription services.

Dave Bredenberg attended Dartmouth College from 1981 to 1985, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science.
