William M. Lies is the current Director at King's College. Prior to that, they served as the President of Goldsmiths Students' Union from June 2019 to June 2020. In that role, they oversaw a £2.3m charity on both a strategic and political basis, leading a team of elected student officers representing 12,000 students.
During their time at Goldsmiths Students' Union, Lies sat on the Board of Governors (Council) for Goldsmiths University, voting on top-end decisions from department budgets to ambitious university-wide targets, whilst overseeing audits, budgets and recruitment. William also chaired the Trustee Board, Finance Committee and Appointments and Staffing Committee, continually crafting long-term plans and resolving short-term challenges within trade services, budgeting process and staffing.
Lies was also responsible for the planning, campaigning and securing the development of Goldsmith’s sector-leading Green New Deal, which saw Goldsmith’s undertake the task of going carbon neutral by 2025. William appeared on Sky News, BBC News, ITV News, Channel 4 and Radio 5 representing our radical decision and talking through the implementation process. In addition, they successfully campaigned for £500K investment in anti-racism services and resources for the University.
As the face of the Students Union, Lies spoke at over 20 high-profile events, in front of an audience of thousands and representing the views of Goldsmiths at the National Union of Students events and in the media.
William M. Lies has a Master of Science from King's College London in Climate Change: Environment, Science and Policy. William also has a Bachelor's degree from Goldsmiths, University of London in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. William has A-Levels from Tollbar Academy. William is also certified as a Mental Health First Aider from MHFA England.
