Caio Koch-Weser

Mr. Caio Koch-Weser is Chairman of the Advisory Council of the European Climate Foundation. From 2013 until 2018 he served as Chair of the Board of the European Climate Foundation.

From 2006 until 2016, Mr. Koch-Weser was Vice-Chairman of Deutsche Bank Group with global responsibilities for strategy; government, regulatory and corporate advisory; coordination and implementation of group-wide business initiatives with special focus on the global energy sector; climate and China. He served also as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of BG Group (2010-16).

From 1999 until 2005, Mr. Koch-Weser was German Deputy Minister of Finance (State Secretary). His responsibilities included international finance (G7 and G20 Deputy); European economic and financial affairs; capital markets, and banking and insurance. – During that time (2003-2005), Mr. Koch-Weser served as Chairman of the EU Economic and Financial Committee, a committee of treasury directors and deputy central bankers that prepares EU ministerial meetings such as the EURO Group and ECOFIN. – He was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BaFin (the German Banking and Securities Supervisory Agency).

From 1973 until 1999, Mr. Koch-Weser held a number of high-level positions at the World Bank in Washington, notably as Division Chief for the China Program (1980-1986), Director for West Africa (1986-1990), Deputy Treasurer and Director Treasury Operations (1990-1991), Regional Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa (1991-1995), and Managing Director for Operations and Member of the Executive Committee (1996-1999).

Other current and former activities include Adjunct Professor at the Guanghua School of Management at Beijing University (2008-2014); a Board Member of BRUEGEL in Brussels; a Trustee and Member of the Executive Committee of the Peterson Institute of International Economics (PIIE) in Washington; a Member of the Board of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in India; a Member of the High Level Advisory Group on Climate Change Finance assembled by the UN Secretary General; a Board Member of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland; a Member of the Board at the World Resources Institute (WRI); Member of the Board of the Climate Works Foundation; Member of the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate (NCE); a Member of the Board of the Centre for European Reform (CER); Member of the Advisory Board of the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS); and Member of the Board of Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS).

Mr. Koch- Weser studied Economics in Germany.
