Nicholas Aperghis

Nicholas (Nick) Aperghis is a Dutch national and the founder and managing partner of Aperghis & Co, which he founded in 2014. He is a strategic adviser to global companies, boards of directors, senior executives, governments and institutional investors.

Since its inception as an independent corporate finance firm to advise clients on M&A and other strategic and financial transactions, as well as equity and debt related capital market transactions, Aperghis & Co completed more than 30 transactions with an aggregate deal volume of over €20 billion.

His background in advisory work was built during his 25-year career, including at J.P. Morgan’s European financial institutions investment banking group and as head of Deutsche Bank’s investment bank for the Benelux region.

During his time at J.P. Morgan in London from 1999 to 2007, he advised on a host of M&A, IPO and capital markets transactions for financial institutions on a pan-European basis. He joined Deutsche Bank in 2008 as Head of Benelux, Corporate Finance Division, Global Banking to lead the growth and expansion of the Benelux investment banking franchise. In this role, his was responsible for and involved with most of the relationships, advisory, underwriting and capital markets issuance in the region.

His advisory firm has been frequently engaged by the Government of the Netherlands, for example in the IPOs and all of the follow-on trades to date of ABN AMRO and a.s.r. Nederland N.V. Aperghis & Co was selected on the panel of corporate finance advisors to the Dutch Ministry of Finance. He is also strategic adviser to regulators and other (semi) public institutions. He was retained as strategic advisor in landmark transactions such as Athora’s acquisition of insurance company VIVAT (now Athora Netherlands) and the Committee of Selling Shareholders on the sale of Eneco Groep N.V. to a consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation and Chubu Electric Power Co.

As principal, Nick has initiated and co-sponsored a SPAC (EFIC1) that successfully combined with a private operating company (de-SPAC transaction, Azerion), which today is listed on Euronext Amsterdam.

He is a graduate of Georgetown University where he received the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Services and earned with distinction his LL.M. in the area of Common Law Studies. He also holds an LL.M. in Tax Law from Leiden University in the Netherlands. He started his career as a tax lawyer at Stibbe, a leading Benelux law firm, in New York, specializing in cross-border taxation, and worked for Stibbe subsequently in Amsterdam and London, where he was also seconded to Slaughter and May.
