James Merrett has a diverse work experience, starting as an English Teacher at the British Council in 2000. James then worked as an Examiner for UCLES & IELTS at Cambridge Assessment International Education from 1999 to 2005. James joined the University of Exeter in 2002 as a Programme Coordinator and later became a Programme Manager. In 2015, they became an External Examiner at NCUK - The University Consortium. In 2019, they took on the role of External Examiner at the University of Bedfordshire. Most recently, they are serving as the Director and Tutor at Kip McGrath Education Centres since 2020.

James Merrett holds a Master of Education (MEd) degree from the University of Exeter, specializing in Education. James also obtained a Bachelor's degree in History from The University of Manchester. James further pursued their education in English Language Teaching, earning a DELTA qualification from International House Wroclaw.
