Essence Caleb has over 10 years of work experience in various roles and organizations. Essence has recently held positions at KIPP Foundation, where they have served as both a Director and a Senior Director, focusing on planning, implementation, and strategy. Prior to that, Essence worked at The School District of Philadelphia, where they held roles such as Executive Director, Director of Strategy, Operations, and Engagement, Assistant Director of Quality and Accountability, and Project Manager at The Charter Schools Office. Essence also worked as an Editor at Goalbook and participated in the Cambiar Catalyst/ School Systems Leaders Fellowship at Cambiar Education. Essence's early experience includes roles at Summit Academy Charter School as the Director of Special Education and Assistant Principal, as well as Teaching English Language Arts and Special Education. Essence began their career as a Corps Member at Teach for America and also worked as a Communications Liaison for the Brooklyn Borough President at the City of New York and as a Newsletter Coordinator at Northwest Corridor Community Development Corporation.
Essence Caleb has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language Arts from Johnson C. Smith University. Essence also holds a Master of Arts degree in English from Rutgers University - Newark, and a Master of Science in Teaching with a focus on English and Special Education from Fordham University. Additionally, they have obtained a Certificate in Strategy Execution from Harvard Business School Online in 2022, and a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education in 2021. Essence has also participated in various summer programs and scholarship opportunities throughout their education.
