Jelisa Jay Robinson is an accomplished educator and creative professional with extensive experience in theater arts. Currently serving as the Lead Theater Teacher at KIPP Texas Public Schools since August 2019, Jelisa has successfully led a majority of 300 students in achieving significant growth in theater assessments, developed a K-4th grade curriculum tailored for diverse learners, and organized a school-wide Film Festival with impressive student participation. As a self-employed playwright and writing coach since January 2015, Jelisa has showcased multiple full-length plays and conducted numerous writing classes, enriching the skills of over 100 students. Previously, Jelisa held roles as an Elementary and High School Theater Arts Teacher with Houston ISD from October 2015 to July 2019, leading curriculum development and student programming initiatives that improved academic performance. Educated at The University of Texas at Austin and Spalding University, Jelisa has received accolades for innovative teaching and impactful leadership in the arts.
