Tom Beer has been working as an editor and writer for over twenty-five years. Tom started their career at Bantam Books in 1990 and then moved on to Out Magazine in 1994. Tom was with Out Magazine for six years, holding positions such as managing editor and executive editor. In 2000, they left Out Magazine to become a freelance writer and editor. During their time as a freelancer, they wrote reviews and features for a variety of publications, including Newsday, Time Out New York, The Village, Travel + Leisure, InStyle, and more. In 2007, they became the Books and Travel Editor at Newsday, where they edited the Sunday books and travel sections, plus the weekly NYC Picks. In 2015, they became involved with THE NATIONAL BOOK CRITICS CIRCLE, INC., first as a board member and then as president. Tom held this position until 2017. Tom is currently the Editor in Chief at Kirkus Reviews.
Tom Beer's educational career includes a Bachelor of Arts in English from Carleton College.
