Karen Abad

Karen Abad has a diverse work experience, starting as a Sales Associate at Hallmark Cards from 2001 to 2006. Karen then worked as a Sales Associate at Westfield from 2005 to 2007. During that time, they also worked as a Photography Darkroom Lab Assistant and Graphic Designer, Communications Video Lab Aide at Calvin College.

From 2007 onwards, Karen began their freelance career as an Editor/Cinematographer. Karen mainly freelanced as a cinematographer, camera operator, and editor, occasionally working as a writer or director. Karen also worked as a Community Assistant and Filmmaker at Vimeo in 2009.

In 2010, Karen worked as a Camera Operator/Editor/Video Production at Zacuto. From 2014 to 2018, they worked at Click to Play Media as a Post Production Editor, Writer, Camera Department, and worked in Directing/Producing.

Karen joined DIY.org in 2019 as a Videographer/Editor for a few months before joining KiwiCo, Inc. in December 2019 as a Video Editor.

Additionally, Karen has been moonlighting as an ESL Teacher at VIPKID since 2018, teaching English to Chinese students aged 6-14. Karen is certified to teach various English courses, including TOEFL courses and Junior Creator's League specializing in Music and Music Theory. Their position at VIPKID ended in November 2021.

Karen Abad obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts and Sciences, with a focus on Film Studies and Psychology, from Calvin University. Karen attended Calvin University from 2003 to 2007. Prior to that, they completed their high school education at Fairfield High, where they obtained a High School Diploma. During their time at Fairfield High from 1999 to 2003, Karen Abad studied subjects such as Psychology, Spanish, Chemistry, Symphonic Band, and Creative Writing.

Following their undergraduate education, Karen Abad pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree in Motion Pictures and Television with a specialization in Cinematography at the Academy of Arts University. Karen attended the Academy of Arts University from 2007 to 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Karen Abad has obtained several certifications related to teaching English as a foreign language. Karen received a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification from TEFL in China in June 2020. In November 2019, they obtained a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification from the International Open Academy. In December 2018, they acquired another TESOL certification from the TESOL International Association.
