John Winemiller

John Winemiller has a diverse and extensive work experience. John is currently the Chief Diversity Officer and Office Managing Partner at Merchant & Gould P.C., where they have been a Partner since 2013. Their practice focuses on intellectual property law and litigation, counseling clients on patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and advertising law. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould P.C., John worked as an Attorney at Hunton & Williams LLP. John also has experience working in the legal field as a Law Clerk at both the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. In addition to their legal career, John has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Law and held the role of VP Long Range Planning at the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Before becoming a lawyer, they were a Visiting Assistant Professor at SUNY-Stony Brook.

John Winemiller's education history began in 1981 when they attended Marshfield Senior High School. John then went on to pursue their bachelor's degree in Music at Carleton College from 1984 to 1988, graduating magna cum laude. After completing their undergraduate studies, they enrolled at the University of Chicago and obtained a Ph.D. in Music History and Theory between 1988 and 1994. Later, from 1997 to 2000, John attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, where they earned their J.D. degree with the highest honors, summa cum laude.
