Tunku Imran

Member of the Board of Governors & Board of Trustees at Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar

Tunku Imran has been a member of KTJ’s Board of Trustees since 1988. He is currently Executive Chairman of Syarikat Pesaka Antah Sdn Bhd. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the Antah Group of Companies from 1976 until he stepped down at the end of February 2001. He is also the Chancellor of Wawasan Open University, Malaysia.

Tunku Imran has a passionate interest in sport. He was formerly Malaysia’s national squash champion, and was a member of Malaysia’s national team. He also played cricket, rugby, hockey and tennis competitively.

In sports administration, Tunku Imran has held positions of high distinction in sports governing bodies at national, regional and international levels. Notably, he was President of the World Squash Federation and an Executive Board Member of the International Cricket Council. He has been an influential figure in the Olympic movement, as reflected in his election as an Honorary member of the International Olympic Committee as well as his positions as Honorary Life President of both the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Tunku Imran was also Director of the Organising Committee of the 1998 Commonwealth Games, hosted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tunku Imran is a beacon for junior sports development through the Foundation for Malaysian Sporting Excellence (SportExcel), of which he is the Founder and Chairman. Since its establishment in 1989, SportExcel’s platform for junior sports development has benefited thousands of young Malaysians, paving the way for their success at the international level. They include world champions like Dato’ Nicol David (squash) and Shalin Zulkifli (bowling), and Asian champions like Gavin Kyle Green (golf).

Tunku Imran graduated with a Bachelor of Law (Honours) degree from Nottingham University in 1970. He was conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Laws by the University of Nottingham and received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University from the University of Glasgow.
