Haakon Svane

Haakon Svane is a highly experienced diplomatic professional, currently serving as Deputy Director and Head of Unit at Utenriksdepartementet since August 2023, leading the foreign service response centre and the MFA situation centre. With a strong background in crisis management, Haakon has held key positions including Crisis Manager and Senior Advisor at the Norwegian Embassy in Mogadishu, and Chargé d’affaires at Utenriksdepartementet. Previous roles encompass senior advisory positions with a focus on human rights and security policy, as well as directorial roles in maritime security and contingency planning at the Norwegian Shipowners' Association. Haakon's educational background includes degrees in Political Geography from the University of Oslo and Southeast Asian History from the University of California, Berkeley, complemented by coursework at the Norwegian National Defence College and the Diplomatic Academy.
