Tom Houweling

Tom Houweling has extensive experience in data engineering and software engineering. Tom has held various roles in different companies, including Komodo Health, Qbiz Inc., Lyft, NerdWallet, Chartboost, Funding Circle US, Facebook, Lookout, and WePay.

In their most recent role as a Staff Data Engineer / Technical Lead at Komodo Health, Tom demonstrates engineering management skills, technical leadership, and strategic thinking.

During their time at Qbiz Inc., Tom served as a Lead Consultant in Data Engineering, where they worked with clients on data modeling, implementing data warehouse architecture, and ETL. Tom advised clients on the right technology stack for their projects and utilized technologies such as Hadoop/Hive, SQL, REST-APIs, Amazon S3, Redshift, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Spark, and Airflow.

At Lyft, Tom worked as a Data Engineering Consultant and contributed to data engineering projects. In their role at NerdWallet as a Staff Data Engineer, they spearheaded the implementation of a new user tracking model in Snowflake, demonstrating expertise in using Snowflake features and creating custom operators.

Tom has also worked as a Data Engineering Consultant at Chartboost, Facebook, Lookout, and WePay, where they undertook various data engineering projects, including building data models, implementing standardized DAGs, and improving data accuracy and revenue generation.

Throughout their career, Tom has showcased strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a focus on automation and process improvements.

Tom Houweling has a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. Tom also holds a Master of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, equivalent to MSEE, from the ZHAW School of Engineering in Switzerland. In addition to their academic qualifications, Tom has obtained the AWS Certified Big Data - Specialty (BDS) certification from Amazon Web Services in November 2019, as well as the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF) certification in October 2019.
