Yunanto Utomo

Visual And Interactive Content Manager at Kompas.com

Yunanto Utomo has a diverse work experience spanning over 14 years. Yunanto started their career as a Travel Writer at YogYES.com in 2006. In 2007, they became a Science Teacher at Mutiara Bangsa School, and later moved to Brighton Junior High School in 2008, where they taught various science subjects and mentored the Science Club.

In 2010, Yunanto began working at Kompas.com as a Science Content Specialist, responsible for writing and editing science articles and building networks in the science and technology field. Yunanto was then promoted to the role of Science Content Manager in 2013, where they coached junior science journalists and developed strategies to communicate science to the wider public. In 2020, they became the Visual and Interactive Content Manager, leading a team to produce innovative content for Kompas.com's Visual Interaktif Kompas (VIK) channel.

In 2015, Yunanto co-founded the Society of Indonesian Science Journalists (SISJ) with the aim of improving the capabilities of science journalists and scientists in communicating science. Yunanto also served as a steering committee member for the first Indonesian Science Journalists Conference.

Yunanto pursued further studies as a Chevening Scholar in 2019, focusing on the use of technology such as VR/AR and gaming approaches for content creation, with the goal of advancing science communication and making it more engaging for younger audiences.

Yunanto Utomo completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biology, General from Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta from 2001 to 2006. Yunanto then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Digital Creative Media from Loughborough University, which they completed between 2019 and 2020.
