James Miller

Editor In Chief, Worldviews: Global Religions, Culture, And Ecology at Brill

James Miller has an extensive work experience in academia and research. James currently holds the position of Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Library of Congress, starting in 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Duke Kunshan University from 2018, where they held various roles including Chair of Faculty Assembly, Professor and Co-Director of Humanities Research Center, and Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Strategy. James also served as the Editor In Chief for Worldviews: Global Religions, Culture, and Ecology at Brill since 2019. Before joining Duke Kunshan University, they worked at Queen's University from 2001 to 2018, where they held positions such as Professor, Director of the School of Religion, and Director of Cultural Studies. James also coordinated the Queen's-Fudan Semester in Shanghai Program and served as the Undergraduate Chair and Graduate Coordinator of the School of Religion. James Miller specializes in Chinese religions and religious studies.

James Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Studies from Durham University in 1990. In 1986, they started their undergraduate studies at Durham University and completed them in 1990. Additionally, James participated in a summer program at the National Taiwan Normal University in 1989, focusing on Mandarin training. From 1987 to 1988, they studied abroad at Renmin University of China, specializing in Chinese Language and Literature. Following their undergraduate studies, James pursued further education at the University of Cambridge, where they completed a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Theological and Religious Studies from 1991 to 1994. Finally, James completed their highest level of education at Boston University, where they obtained a PhD in Religion between 1994 and 2000.
