Oran Kennedy

Editorial Assistant, Journal Of Global Slavery at Brill

Oran Patrick Kennedy is currently a Short-Term Visiting Fellow at the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies since September 2024. With extensive experience in academia, Oran served as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at Leiden University from August 2021 to July 2024, overseeing a seminar on slavery and self-emancipation in North America, along with various teaching positions at the University of Groningen and Inholland University of Applied Sciences. Oran has also contributed to the editorial field as an Editorial Assistant for the Journal of Global Slavery with Brill since September 2015, where responsibilities include reviewing journal submissions and managing social media presence. Other professional experiences include freelance editing and proofreading with Kennedy Editing and Proofreading and organizing a significant event focused on refugee perspectives at the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies. Academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in North American History from Leiden University and master's and bachelor's degrees in US History and History and Politics, respectively, from Queen's University Belfast.
