Alex Surpatean

Alex Surpatean is an experienced data engineer and analyst. They have worked at various companies, including Vopak, where they currently hold the position of Lead Data Engineer. In this role, Alex is responsible for data engineering tasks related to ETL pipelines for the AWS data lake and the migration of the data warehouse to Snowflake.

Prior to this, Alex worked as a Senior Big Data Specialist at a consulting firm, where they provided data engineering services for Royal Vopak and also worked with a large European telecom operator on data modeling and engineering for a new data lake.

Before their consulting role, Alex served as a Senior Product Analyst at eBay Classifieds Group, supporting teams globally with data analysis and facilitating data flow and interoperability between headquarters and other regions.

Furthermore, Alex has experience as a Data Scientist at BigAlgo and as a Data Analyst at a consulting company. In these roles, they worked on various projects including longitudinal analysis of publications and patents, data integration, and development of a collaborative recommender engine.

Prior to their consulting positions, Alex worked as a Software & Database Developer and a Software Developer for different contractors. In these roles, they developed business metrics, dashboards, and analytics tools, as well as data migration solutions.

Alex's work experience also includes internships as a Software Developer and in hardware testing and benchmarking.

Alex Surpatean has a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence from the Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering at Maastricht University. Their studies focused on machine learning, data mining, and recommender systems. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Maastricht, with a concentration in computer science, mathematics, and artificial intelligence. In addition to their academic qualifications, Alex has obtained certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty and AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate from Amazon Web Services, as well as Professional Scrum with Kanban from Scrum.org.
